A cat in North Shields had its tail amputated after being shot with an air rifle. The owner noticed the cat, named Roy, was acting subdued and his tail was not functioning properly. A vet visit revealed a pellet lodged in Roy's spine. Surgery removed his tail and the hidden pellet.
The owner expressed disgust and questioned why someone would harm an innocent animal. The incident has made them feel unsafe in the area and they are considering building a "catio" for their cats' safety. They advise other owners to be vigilant and bring their cats inside at 5pm.
Roy's tail removal surgery was successful and he has returned home, but he is now more calm and subdued. He sleeps more and moves cautiously. It was discovered that Roy was shot, which devastated his owners.
The vet assured them he is lucky to be alive. The couple have paid almost £1,000 so far and hope to claim it back on insurance. They expect to be reimbursed in two weeks. The incident has been reported to the Northumbria Police, and Ms Peters mentioned the financial strain on their small business and personal finances.

Trapped cat freed by firefighters
Hampshire Fire Service
Firefighters in Lymington, Hampshire, came to the rescue of a tortoiseshell cat named Holly after her claws got stuck in a patio table.
The distressed 17-year-old moggy was freed using a saw, and miraculously remained unharmed. She was happily reunited with her relieved owners, who were grateful to have their beloved pet back safely. The firefighters even went the extra mile by returning later for a home fire safety visit. The crew had to think on their feet and utilize the equipment available on their fire engine.
Bob Patton, the watch manager at Lymington Fire Station, mentioned that their ring cutters proved to be the perfect tool for the rescue. Holly wasn't too pleased initially, understandably upset about her trapped paw, but she stayed well-behaved as the team carefully worked to set her free.

CAT ADVICE AND KNOWLEDGE
Why do cats pee outside the litter box ?
Cats may pee outside the litter box for various reasons, and it can be quite frustrating for cat owners.
One common cause is a medical issue, such as a urinary tract infection or bladder stones, which can cause discomfort and lead to inappropriate elimination. Another reason could be stress or anxiety, which may arise from changes in the environment, such as a new pet or a move to a new home.
To solve this issue, it is essential to first rule out any medical problems by consulting a veterinarian. If the cat is healthy, providing a clean and easily accessible litter box in a quiet and secure location can help.
Additionally, ensuring that the litter box is scooped regularly and using a litter that your cat prefers can encourage them to use it. Creating a calm and enriched environment with plenty of toys, scratching posts, and hiding spots can also help reduce stress and prevent inappropriate elimination.
