A man burned his partner's cat on a stove, "microwaved" it, and threatened his girlfriend with the same fate. Carlos Perez, 23, was arrested for assaulting his girlfriend, torturing her cat, and disposing of its body in a nearby dumpster. Detectives in Fargo, ND, responded to a domestic dispute.

The woman claimed Perez got angry when she didn't come home early from work. She received photos of him holding her cat over a lit stove burner.

Perez viciously attacked the pet, using a speaker to hit it and trying to choke it. He also burned its paw with a lighter and heartlessly put it in a microwave, resulting in its death. Perez's partner said he got rid of the lifeless body in a nearby dumpster and threatened her with a similar fate.

The man is accused of slapping the woman, locking her in a closet, and breaking her phone to stop her from calling 911. She also alleged that he had been physically abusive before, cutting her with a knife and needing stitches in the past two months.(read more)

Missing cat reunites with owners whose entire home collapsed into Alaska river

An Alaska couple lost their home and cat Leo when it collapsed into a river due to a glacial collapse. A viral video showed the house falling into the swollen Mendenhall River on August 5. Elizabeth Wilkins and Tom Schwartz had hope that their cat had survived. They had rescued Leo in 2020 and he is fearless even in the presence of bears.

Twenty-six days later, Tony Mead shared a picture of Leo on Facebook. Wilkins recognized Leo and contacted Mead. Leo ran out to him when called, asking where he had been. Leo was thinner but otherwise fine. He ate four cans of tuna and killed a mouse, which helped him survive.

‘Some of our clothes and pictures were found in 4 feet of silt in a yard down the Mendenhall River,’ Wilkins said. Leo was sighted multiple times, but Wilkins acknowledged that it could have been other black-and-white cats in the area. Reuniting with Leo has brought joy to the couple. ‘Everyone in the community was searching for him,’ she said, ‘And it’s nice to have some good news.’(read more)

Cats on Vegan Diet are Healthier Than Meat Eaters

Scientists from the University of Winchester have found that vegan diets may be beneficial for cats and reduce the risk of health issues. In a study analyzing responses from 1,369 cat owners, researchers found that cats on vegan diets had better overall health outcomes. They were 7% less likely to visit the vet frequently and had a 15% lower overall use of medication.

The number of health disorders per unwell cat was also 16% lower for vegans compared to cats who ate meat. While these percentages are not statistically significant, they indicate a clear trend. More research is needed to analyze the nutrient content of vegan cat diets, but other studies have reached similar conclusions. It is important for pet guardians to feed only commercial vegan pet foods labeled as nutritionally complete and produced by reputable companies.

Moet the Blind Cat

Moet the Blind Cat was born healthy and able to see in Oman. Unfortunately, Moet contracted cat flu in an unregulated pet store. She lost her sight due to the cat flu. Moet was saved and brought to a local veterinarian who had her eyes removed to save her life. Today, Moet lives in California after being adopted back in 2014.
